We promoted FIRST by doing demos, volunteering, and community service. Examples include bell ringing and participating in the Purple Stride Walk. Some of our members also mentor for other FRC, FTC, FLL, and VEX teams. MORE Robotics has its own FLL team. We helped mentor several others including four FLL teams from Oak Creek. We have helped influence a curriculum for a Robotics course at Thomas More High School following last year's implementation of a similar course at Oak Creek High School. The Thomas More classes have been approved for credit this school year. Several team members have attended engineering camps, taught robotics classes at our local science museum, and obtained successful internships.
A special project that we have continued working on with the Oak Creek Fire Department is the assembly and tracking of trauma kits that were placed in all classrooms in the Oak Creek School District. This project continues to grow.
We have collected tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, raised money for the American Cancer Society and Pancreatic Cancer Society, facilitated food, toiletry, hat, glove, scarf, and sock drives, provided many volunteers at many FIRST events, and rang bells for the Salvation Army. Teammates have served meals several times at a community meal program. The team has also shown off their robots and talked about FIRST at several children's library programs.
We held demonstrations at Summerfest, several schools, Oak Creek's National Night Out and the American Legion to name just a few. We also demonstrated and toured several of our sponsors like Rockwell Automation, Nucor, PPG, MGIC, and Joy Global. The team also had the honor of accepting the Citation and Recognition Award from the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors!
