Meet Team #1714

Team Members

 

Name: Abby

Abby is one of our youngest members on More Robotics. She was the Team Mascot in the past. She also documented last year’s season with a video camera. This season she will be working on our Chairman's submission. She enjoys art, writing, reading, and science. She is involved with the school yearbook. Her favorite food is onion rings.

 

Name: AJ

AJ is our team co-captain and will work on electronics and building this year. He was heard saying many times last season “If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks, then it needed to be replaced anyway.” He is a sophomore at Oak Creek High School and his favorite class is electronics. He likes to watch Myth Busters and That 70s Show! on TV and eat popcorn. He has a pet dog named Ranger. He would like to say, "We require more fire!"
Name: Alicia                            Nickname: Shanae

Alicia, a new member on the team, is a junior at St. Thomas More High School, where her favorite class is Chemistry. She also participates in chess club, stage crew, and a few other things. Her hobbies include music and making memories, as well as baking cookies. Alicia has one pet, Rosco. Her favorite TV show is Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends. Green is her favorite color. Her favorite phrase is "I guess..." Alicia plans on attending college, but doesn't know where yet. She would like to add that she hates wearing shoes, and her hair color changes every month.

Name: Beth



As a junior at St. Thomas More High School, she is a member of the cross country team, basketball team, track, ambassadors, and key club. Her favorite class is Chemistry. A few of her favorite foods include spaghetti, root beer, and strawberry banana shakes. Her favorite saying is “Yay!” When not at school, she enjoys reading, running, speaking with a British accent, and Math.

Name: Chantel

As a junior at St. Thomas More, Chantel is involved in many extracurricular activities. In addition to sports and student council, she also participates in Advanced Ensemble and plays piano. She has three turtles, China, Tiny Tim, and Henry. Her favorite TV show is Home Improvement, and tacos are her favorite food. Chantel plans on attending Marquette University in the future. 

 

Name: Collin

A sophomore at Oak Creek High School and new member of our team. Collin's favorite class is electronics. He participates in computer club and science club. He likes computers, rocketry, electronics, robots, guitar, and reading. He also likes The Office, Mythbusters, Chinese food, pizza, and American Dad. Collin's favorite phrase is "That's great," and his favorite part about robotics is the people.

Name: Eric

Eric is a sophomore at Greenfield High School. His favorite foods are pizza, pineapple, and corn. He likes to spend his time fishing, swimming, and composing music, as well as playing Half-Life 2, Halo 3, XBox 360, and Wii. Eric enjoys allowing headcrabs to couple with his head.

Name: Erik

Erik is a new member of the team. He is a freshman at St. Thomas More High School, where he participates in Engineering and bowling. Erik likes pizza and South Park. He was two cats - Hershey and Cinnamon - and a dog - Oreo. Erik's favorite thing about robotics is building Vex robots. He passes time not spent at robotics going on MySpace. Erik's job is to design using Autodesk Inventor. He would like to share, "Just put the bread basket...??"

Name: Grace                          Nickname: Shredder

Grace, AKA The Rookie, is currently a freshman at St. Thomas More High. There, she participates in chess club, theater, and art club. She really likes robotics, and is the webmistress for the team. Besides reading Shakespeare and Poe, Grace likes to pass her time performing in theatre and surfing the web. Her favorite foods are Lucky Noodles, fried rice, and beef Ramen.

Name: Jamie

Jamie was our Public Relations (PR) person last year. She plans on scouting this year and she looks forward to meeting members from other teams and learning new things. As a senior at St. Thomas More High School, she enjoys bowling and tennis. Her favorite class is government. Jamie enjoys making new friends and she loves to eat spaghetti. She has a puppy named Zoey and her favorite phrase is "Oh. Em. Gee." She loves shopping, partying, beaches, and friends. Jamie plans on attending UW-Milwaukee.
Name: Jeff

Jeff is a senior at Oak Creek High School. He is co-captain on our fuel cell project. He is a member of the forensics team. His favorite class is chemistry. He enjoys basketball, football, knitting, and cooking. He likes to drink strawberry frappuccinos while watching Family Guy. As a member of More Robotics, he enjoys the camaraderie of his fellow team members.
 
Name: Jenni

Jenni works on our battery charging station,  fuel cell project, and stand scouting. She is a senior at Oak Creek High School and her favorite class is history. She enjoys swimming, sleeping, and reading. Her favorite TV shows are That 70’s Show and The Simpsons. She likes chocolate and the people at robotics. Jenni plans on attending UW-Milwaukee next year to study Civil Engineering.

Name: Joey                               Nickname: Yoseph

Joey is a sophomore at Oak Creek High School. He is a mentor of our Lego Teams. He is the programming captain for the team. Joey plays the drums and is a member of his high school band. He likes to play Xbox and watch Scrubs. His favorite food is pizza.
 

Name: Joseph             Nickname: Grillinator

Joseph is a junior at St. Thomas More High School and is a veteran member of Team #1714. He is captain of our chassis team. He plays the drums, his favorite class is PE, and he is a member of the Pep Band and
National Honors Society. He enjoys watching Family Guy, Heroes and Futurama on TV and likes to eat cheese cake and dirt cake. His favorite phrase is “Non-Chalant”.

Name: Justin

Justin, a rookie on the team, is a freshman at South Milwaukee High School, where he is a member of the A/V Club. He also plays volleyball and participates in theater. Reportedly, he can eat pizza 24/7 and enjoys watching Family Guy and the Simpsons. He plans on attending either UW-Oshkosh for Criminal Justice or possibly Marquette for Engineering. Justin runs his own small business making videos of school events -- Loose Change Studios. "He is the coolest kid in the entire world." - Jeff

Name: Karl

Karl, whose nickname is Bud, is a student at St. Thomas More High School. He is the Captain of the Autodesk Inventor team. He enjoys playing Xbox and tennis, as well as watching Heroes, House, and Flash Gordon. Reportedly, his favorite food is peanut butter.  Karl has a dog named Tasker.

 
Name:  Kathryn                              Nickname: Random

Kathryn, a rookie, is a freshman at St. Thomas More High School and is build season safety captain. There, she is on the golf team and participates in chess club. Her favorite class is World History, and she enjoys horses, video games, and swimming. Kathryn likes pizza, chocolate, and enchiladas, as well as Family Guy and Futurama. She plans on going to college, but still doesn't know where. Kathryn's personal quote is "I'M SORRY!!" Kathryn's favorite part of TMCRC is being able to learn & have fun at the same time.
Name: Ken                Nickname: Ninja-Skills

Ken is a senior at Oak Creek High School, where he also participates in HOSA. He is co-captain of our fuel cell project. He enjoys computers, the internet, and likes Chinese food. His favorite show is House and he enjoys playing Nintendo Wii. He also enjoys driving anything fast. He plans to attend UW-Madison or University of Minnesota for Biomedical Engineering.
Name: Mary                                  Nickname: Mare

Mary loves to read, make puzzles, and play Halo 3. She is a student at St. Thomas More High school and is active in theatre, the golf team, SADD, National Honor Society, and Student Ambassadors. Her favorite TV shows are Heroes, Chuck, and Smallville.  Mary is scouting captain and is working on the Woodie Flowers submission. Mary wishes to one day major in electrical engineering.
Name: Spartan 117              Nickname: Master Chief

Spartan 117 is a celebrity guest on the Team. He tends to show up when we have our Halo parties. We're still not quite sure why. He likes to spend his time trying to destroy Halo and the Covenant, thus protecting his world. His favorite food is strawberry rhubarb pie and he enjoys playing Guitar Hero 3.

 

Name: Matt

Matt attends Cudahy High School and is captain of our 3D Studio Max team.. He is a junior and his favorite class is History. He enjoys playing video games and is amazing at Halo. He enjoys watching the Simpsons, Futurama, That 70’s Show, and 24 on TV.
 

Name: Michael

Michael, a rookie this year, is a sophomore at Oak Creek High School, where his favorite class is electronics. He also participates in football. He likes motorcycles, pizza, and The Simpsons. Michael has one dog, Buddy, and his favorite phrase is, "Righteous."

 

Name: Nate

Nate is a strategist and member of the programming team. He is a senior at Oak Creek High School and was instrumental in recruiting new members to our team this year. He loves learning about World War II and enjoys playing the board game Axis and Allies. He is also very good at solving the Rubik’s Cube. He has decided that it's dangerous to change your pants while driving. His favorite saying is “I don’t know, I’m not a doctor”.
Name: Owen

Owen, a freshman at St. Thomas More and this is his first year on the team. He likes cross country, tennis, and engineering. He also enjoys video games, watching TV, and reading books. His favorite shows are Naruto and Mythbusters. Owen has two cats and a dog, and plans on going to UW-Madison.

 

Name: Sam                             Nickname: Freshman

Sam is a freshman at Oak Creek High School, where her favorite class is geometry. She played mini-bass drum in the marching band and loves all sports, especially basketball, cross country, track, and softball. she also participates in Girl Scouts and Forensics. She has one pet - a hamster named Alexander the Rabbit. Sam's favorite foods are oranges, pizza, and chocolate. Sam would like to say that she hates swim class. As a new member of TMCRC, she looks forward to helping out in all areas of the robotics team.

 

Name: Sarah

Sarah is our team co-captain, a veteran of the team, and the head coach of our FIRST Lego League teams. As a junior at St. Thomas More High School she enjoys Engineering and Math. She is a member of the chess club, tennis team, art club, National Honors Society, and has received her Girl Scout Gold Award. She enjoys Tae Kwon Do, Chinese food, and Italian food. She loves to build robots, 3D animation, and video editing.
Name: Stephanie

As a senior at Oak Creek, Stephanie likes A.P. Biology. She participates in swim, and is part of the band and color guard. She's also a cheer instructor and plans on going to UW-Steven's Point. She has many pets, and likes Family Guy, Charmed, and raspberries. Stephanie believes the people at robotics are "awesometastical," which is her favorite phrase.

Name: Tanner      

Tanner is a sophomore at Homestead High School and a new member of the team. He participates in soccer, tennis, and yearbook. Other than watching The Office, Family Guy, and the Simpsons, Tanner likes to spend his time photoshopping, playing XBox, and hanging with friends. He plays guitar and thinks Transformers is a good movie. Tanner's favorite phrase is, "That's insane.

Adult Mentors and Consultants

 
Mike Wittman

Mr. Wittman is our Team President and Coach. He is the CEO of American Acrylics, which is where the team meets and builds. This is his fifth season with FIRST and he has been very involved in Science Technology, Engineering, and Math education in our community. He is a founder and chairman of the Milwaukee Vex League and sits on the St. Thomas More and South Milwaukee Project Lead the Way Partnership Committees. Mr. Wittman enjoys sharing the FIRST experience with his daughter, teammates, and mentors. He enjoys seeing our team members and mentors work well together, and credits our success to their hard work.
Bob Grilli

Mr. Grilli is an active parent and serves as Vice President of More Robotics. Having a non-engineering background, he is amazed how our young student members diagnose and solve difficult problems during the build and competition seasons. Team members quickly learned that his skill at designing and building robots is, let’s say “lacking.” He is so thankful for all the dedicated team mentors and parents we have and he appreciates all that they do.
 
Bob Lynch

Mr. Lynch is the manager of Internet Services for International Truck and Engine. This is his second year with the robotics team as a mentor helping build our award winning web site. In his off time Bob enjoys camping and traveling with his family.  He is a “Voice of the Cavaliers” fan and also enjoys watching science fiction TV shows.  He is married with one son.

 
Brian Cieslak

Brian Cieslak is a software engineer at Rockwell Automation. This year, he is going to mentor students in programming and electronic sensors. He enjoys amateur rocketry and astronomy, and HAM radio. His favorite TV shows are Antiques Roadshow, Tracks Ahead, and PBS Mystery. About his favorite food, Twinkies, Brian says, "take 2 and call me in the morning!" His favorite thing about robotics is that "the kids are focused on their tasks. They listen, think, then solve." He would also like to add that He is the inventor of the AutoFlex Autonomous Programming Tool.

 

Chris Stack

Mr. Stack is a senior at Iowa State University majoring in Mechanical Engineering  who assists our team as a Mechanical Engineering Mentor whenever he is back at home in Milwaukee. He is looking forward to coming back to Milwaukee in the spring to be a full-time mentor as well as a full-time engineer. He's also looking forward to getting a job *wink wink*. His nickname is “Crash” and he enjoys breaking stuff. His favorite saying is “If it isn’t broke, I haven't tried hard enough.” Chris has a laptop for his pet that he calls “Lappy.”

 

Daniel Matthews

Dan is our mentor this year for machining and mechanical advice. He is a machine repairman and vacuum specialist for G.E. Healthcare. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting and skiing, as well as watching Survivor and The Shield. He has a wife and two kids, as well as a sharkfish, Fido. One of his beliefs is that "the dumbest question is the one you have in your head and do not ask." Dan's favorite part about robotics is interfacing with talented young adults. 

Dave Gahl

Dave is a new mentor this season. He mentors wherever he is needed. He is also a Museum Guru at Discovery World. He likes bowling, History, random facts and trivia, and his favorite food is crab legs. House and Family Guy are his favorite TV shows. "Technology is an iron cage," he says, but his favorite part about robotics is knowing that the future has hope.  

Dennis Miller

Dennis is a retired engineer from Johnson Controls. He is married and has 2 children and a cat. His wife teaches English as a second language at MATC. He likes photography, video creation, robotics, computers, and watching NCSI on TV.  His favorite food is lasagna. A favorite memory he holds is retiring. Dennis is responsible for mentoring control and electronics.  

Jeff Krueger

Mr. Krueger joined QuadTech in 1999 and is the Manager of the Engineering System Support team. Jeff is responsible for leading a team of software testing and application engineers to perform verification and validation of software/hardware and troubleshooting QuadTech products. Jeff holds a BS in Computer Engineer from MSOE, an MBA from UW-Oshkosh, and an MS in Management from UW-Milwaukee.  Jeff’s interests include computing technologies including computer networking and software and hardware development.

 

Louis Verstegen

Mr. Verstegen is working with the team on the fuel cell project. Louis works as a Senior Tech Analyst at Rockwell Automation. His favorite phrase is “If it wasn’t for the last minute, nothing would get done.” He is married and has two children.
 
Marc Rivest

Mr. Rivest is a Science Teacher at Oak Creek High School. He is our Scouting Mentor, and helped expand our Vex program by creating a Vex Robotics Club at Oak Creek High School. Mr. Rivest enjoys gardening, playing volleyball, and watching the Amazing Race. He enjoys working with the student team members of More Robotics and he says they “make him feel young again”. He is married and has 2 daughters.
Mary Jo Wittman

Mrs. Wittman  mentors team public relations, communications, and displays. She is a Physical Therapist and enjoys scrap booking. Mrs. Wittman enjoys watching the student team members learn and discover new things, and is amazed at all that they do. Her family has been involved with FIRST for five seasons, and she thinks it has been a most valuable experience.
 
Pam Schaefer

Mrs. Schaefer is our Team Treasurer and FIRST Lego League Team Mentor. She has 3 children, 2 of whom are on the team. She is a Psychologist and Professor who teaches at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is one of our “Team Moms” who feeds us at events throughout the year. Pam appreciates the positive atmosphere and strong commitment from our mentors and students.
 
Sharon Tomski

Mrs. Tomski teaches engineering at St. Thomas More High School.  She has her master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and is a retired Navy Commander. Mrs. Tomski is involved with Project Lead the Way and is mentoring the Autodesk Inventor team. She also helped mentor our FLL teams on which she has 3 sons. She enjoys reading, quilting and jogging.
P.J. Early

P.J., the writing mentor for the team, is a senior writer at STIR Advertising and Marketing. She is married and has two daughters and a step-daughter. She enjoys spending time with her kids and her husband. Her favorite food is cheese pizza, and she enjoys experimental cuisine. P.J. claims she's no good at robotics, but she's still an important part of the team, as she "knows where to stick a comma."

Steven Lynch

Steve is a former team member who is now a team mentor helping with the website. He is majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Marquette University and enjoys promoting robotics and engineering careers. Steve is known as the “Voice of the Cavaliers” for St. Thomas More High School, is an Eagle Scout, a loyal Marquette Golden Eagles fan and a fan of the Green Bay Packers.  He enjoys spending time with friends, pepperoni pizza, golf, and just about any other sport.
