Our FLL team, members of The Wizards of R^3, all became great friends from the first minute we met. We are a community team so we would never have met and become friends without this. One thing we learned about working together is that you may not always agree with each other, but we come together to figure it out and make a solution where everyone is happy.
We kept our robot design simple this year: we had two arms that interchanged to help us complete two missions. In one mission, we had a fork-shaped arm to take a Lego person into a zone, known as "Career Opportunities". We also worked on the "Demolition and Salvage" mission using a tube-shaped arm.
This year's challenge, "Trash Trek," was to find better ways to manage our trash. We met with Keeping Greater Milwaukee Beautiful, and they showed us the Milwaukee recycling yard. We learned that people make 5 pounds of garbage per day. So we designed a website and a QR code that links to it. Then we designed stickers with the QR code to put on every garbage can in America. The website also showed ways to reduce trash. Although the website is down now, you were able to scan the QR code above to get to our website. To find out more ways to help our environment, please check out Keeping Greater Milwaukee Beautiful.
We have stayed involved in robotics following the competition season and continue to do demos.
