We held demonstrations at several community events to promote STEM education and FIRST Robotics. We set up our challenge table, demonstrated robots for the spectators, and took turns explaining what FLL is to the visitors. We held demos at:
During this season, part of our research included befriending a senior and asking him or her about the problems he or she has faced as a senior. We interviewed the grandfather of one of our team members and found that he struggles with his eyesight. Through our research and by speaking to a local eye doctor, Dr. Buettner, we found that the lens hardens over time. Since the lens is used to focus images, the hardening of the lens makes it very difficult to do its job. This results in poor vision and the need for eye glasses. We designed a nanobot to solve this problem. This robot would be inserted into the eye using a clear corneal incision and a laser, and soften the lens by cutting away excess material.
